Virginia High hosted a 3D printing academy for select students from Virginia High School, Scott County Public Schools, and Washington County Public Schools, during the first week of summer. This program was fully funded by the Department for Ageing and Rehabilitation Services (DARS) and offered a unique opportunity for students to gain valuable skills and take home some amazing technology.
Partnering with STEAMBridge, an Ashburn, VA-based vendor, the academy provided students with hands-on experience in building and using 3D printers. Students learned:
The fundamentals of 3D printing technology
The function and role of each 3D printer component
Design software for creating custom 3D models
Adaptive manufacturing techniques and their real-world applications
The best part? Upon completing the program, students were able to keep the tools they used to learn! Each participant took home a JellyBox4 3D printer, perfect for continuing their 3D printing journey at home.
