Mr. Parks has taught for 29 years in Virginia with 26 years at Virginia Middle School in Bristol, Virginia. He has also taught in Lee County and Roanoke County Schools. He graduated with honors from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree and Masters of Arts in Education (MAEd) in 1995 and 2009.

During his tenure at Virginia Middle School, Mr. Parks has grown the band program from 80 students to over 150 students. Almost a third of the school is involved in the band program at Virginia Middle School. Under Mr. Parks’ direction, his concert bands have consistently received superior ratings at state concert assessment. Mr. Parks has several students to make the All-District VII Band. Virginia Middle School has been recognized twice as a Blue Ribbon School for musical excellence and Bristol Virginia City Schools has been recognized thirteen years as a “Top 100 Communities for Music Education in America”.

Mr. Parks has been nominated several times for Teacher-of-the-Year at Virginia Middle School and has been recognized three times in the Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. Mr. Parks has been a guest clinician throughout Virginia and Tennessee. He also has hosted District Band and Concert Assessment for VBODA’s District 7 bands and he has served on several VBODA state committees.

Mr. Parks is a member of Delta Omicron, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Music Educator’ National Conference, Virginia Band and Orchestra Director’s Association, Virginia Music Educators Association, Virginia Education Association, and Bristol Virginia Education Association.

Mr. Parks currently resides in Bristol, Virginia with his wife, son, and three cats.
